Valentina Shevchenko Won’t Believe Nicco Montano Until She Signs the Bout Agreement
Valentina Shevchenko is past the point of frustration waiting for UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano to sign on the dotted line to face her.
Montano won the title last December but she was also dealing with a serious foot injury that hampered her during training camp and throughout the fight that earned her the flyweight championship.
In the aftermath of that injury, Montano has been undergoing intense physical therapy to treat her foot. Then just recently, Montano fell ill and required surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids, which put her on the sidelines even longer.
Still, Montano says she’s finally back to full health and targeting a return to action at UFC 228, which is scheduled to take place on Sept. 8 at a location still to be determined.
Shevchenko isn’t ready to celebrate just yet, however, as she claims she’s heard this story before after a proposed fight against Montano was offered for the UFC on FOX card in July yet the matchup never actually came together.
“Hey Nicco, finally!,” Shevchenko wrote on Twitter. “Sign the fight agreement first. You changed your word once already. No trust before I will see the paper from you. See you in Octagon.”

Shevchenko has been anxiously awaiting her shot at the title after making a successful debut in the UFC women’s flyweight division back in January.
The former bantamweight title contender was almost immediately declared the next in line to challenge Montano and Shevchenko has been waiting ever since.
UFC officials haven’t commented on the proposed date but there have been no major fights announced for the card on Sept. 8 so it seems likely that a women’s flyweight title bout would fit nicely on the end of summer pay-per-view.
