Robert Whittaker Faces Kelvin Gastelum Next After Coaching The Ultimate Fighter 28
UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has his next challenge set as he will face Kelvin Gastelum later this year after they coach against each other on the newest installment of “The Ultimate Fighter”.
The news about the fight and the latest season of the long running reality show was announced during “The Ultimate Fighter” season 27 finale on Friday night.
Whittaker is coming out of a five round war with Yoel Romero where he retained his middleweight title in June. Following that win, Whittaker revealed that he suffered a broken hand, which likely meant he was going to be out of action for a little while anyways.
Now Whittaker will be able to stay busy while coaching on “The Ultimate Fighter” with plans in place to have him defend his title in December after the season is wrapped.
As for Gastelum, he will get his first shot at UFC gold after winning “The Ultimate Fighter” back in season 17. Gastelum has earned wins in his past two fights in a row including a knockout against former champion Michael Bisping.
Now Gastelum will get his shot at Whittaker’s title following the latest installment of “The Ultimate Fighter” that will begin filming in July with the show expected to debut on FS1 in September.
As of now there’s no exact date for the Whittaker vs. Gastelum fight but it’s likely they will meet at one of the major cards in December, which will coincide with the season finale of “The Ultimate Fighter”.
