Nick Diaz Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges (UPDATED)
Former UFC title contender Nick Diaz was arrested and taken into custody on domestic violence charges in Las Vegas.
Online court records show Diaz being arrested on one felony count of domestic battery by strangulation and a second misdemeanor charge for domestic battery.
Las Vegas Police were able to identify Diaz being arrested, although they were unable to state specifically if he was the mixed martial artist but additional sources confirmed it was the UFC veteran in custody.
Diaz is currently being held on $18,000 bail.
According to a separate report from MMAJunkie, Diaz was arrested after police were called and responded at around 7:20 p.m. PT in Las Vegas. The alleged victim was a female but no further details were available at the time.
Diaz, 34, hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2015, although UFC president Dana White had said recently that he believed the former title contender was contemplating a comeback.
Diaz will remain in custody until at least Saturday morning when he will go before a judge in Las Vegas. Following that hearing, Diaz will be allowed to post bail.
UPDATE: Diaz has been released from jail after posting bail on Saturday morning. The UFC also issued a statement regarding his arrest:
“UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete, Nick Diaz. The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.”
