Featherweight Mirsad Bektic has been forced out of his upcoming contest against Renato Moicano at UFC 231 in Toront on Dec. 8.

Featherweight Mirsad Bektic has been forced out of his upcoming contest against Renato Moicano at UFC 231 in Toront on Dec. 8.

Sources close to the fight confirmed the news on Thursday following an initial report from FloCombat.

There’s no word on why Bektic was pulled from the fight but unfortunately that leaves Moicano awaiting a replacement as the search for a new opponent is underway.

The fight between Moicano and Bektic was serving as the backup to the main event between featherweight champion Max Holloway and Brian Ortega. If anything unfortunate happened to either main event fighter, Moicano or Bektic would be pulled in as a replacement.

It’s likely that will still be the scenario for Moicano but now he has to wait for the UFC ot find him a replacement opponent on three weeks notice.

UFC 231 goes down on Dec. 8 from Toronto with two title fights on the card including Holloway vs. Ortega as well as a new women’s flyweight champion being crowned as Valentina Shevchenko faces Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
