Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar for the featherweight title headlines UFC 218
Detroit Rock City has a main event.
Featherweight champion Max Holloway will look to defend his title for the first time as he faces veteran contender Frankie Edgar in the headline bout on Dec. 2 from Detroit.
UFC officials confirmed the matchup to ESPN on Tuesday.
Holloway has been champing at the bit to get back in action ever since his knockout win over Jose Aldo in June to capture the title.
First things first, Holloway had to hash out a new deal with the UFC, which it appears came to fruition as he’s signed on the dotted line to return in December.
The fight will serve as the third stab at the featherweight title for Edgar, who came up short on two prior occasions when he faced off with Aldo.
Now following two impressive wins in a row including an absolute drubbing against top prospect Yair Rodriguez in May, Edgar will get another shot at the gold with Holloway as champion now.
Holloway and Edgar will headline the first UFC card in Detroit since 2010 as the featherweight title goes up for grabs while heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou meet in the co-main event on the card.
