[Video] Watch Molly McCann Win The Vacant Cage Warriors Flyweight Title

Molly McCann became the new Cage Warriors women’s flyweight champion this evening in front of a packed out crowd at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

McCann (6-1) faced Bryony Tyrell (4-1-1) in the main event of Cage Warriors 90 and came into the bout with 5 straight wins under he belt. Just like Paddy Pimblett had one earlier in the night, McCann got an incredible reception from the crowd and she lapped up the atmosphere are walked to the cage for the first title fight of her career.

Round 1

The crowd were on their feet as the fighters touched gloves for the final time. McCann took the centre of the cage as Tyrell moved from right to left trying to stay elusive from the Liverpudlian’s advances. McCann looked to go to the body early on, but Tyrell responded with a knee that only just missed the mark. McCann continued to pressure forward as Tyrell probed away with kicks to the midsection. McCann continued to push forward though and she landed a pair of still left hands. McCann then ae a counter from Tyrell, but taunted her with a middle finger. The two then exchanged grazing hooks up close as Tyrell’s head rocked back with a left hand. McCann then caught a kick from Tyrell and looked to land a huge overhand right that narrowly missed. A short period in the clinch ended with a stiff McCann left hand, but Tyrell to her credit ate it well and the two continued to trade until the klaxon signalled the end of the round.

Round 2

Both women opened round 2 as they started round 1, throwing fire and using good head movement to evade most of the incoming strikes. Tyrell continued to work the body, but McCann fired didn’t take a stop back and landed a series of left hands to rock Tyrell against the cage. Referee Marc Goddard nearly stopped the fighter after several unanswered strikes, but he let it go for a while longer before stepping in as Tyrell looking like she wanted no more. Molly McCann is the new Cage Warriors women’s flyweight champion.
