Usman Nurmagomedov Calls for Humility After McGregor’s Outburst
McGregor Furious After Hughes’ Loss
Conor McGregor did not take kindly to fellow Irishman Paul Hughes’ reaction after losing to Usman Nurmagomedov in the main event of PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai. Nurmagomedov (19-0) secured a majority decision victory over Hughes (13-2), but McGregor called the result a “robbery.”
What frustrated McGregor even more was Hughes’ sportsmanship toward Nurmagomedov and his team after the fight. The Irish superstar felt that Hughes should have taken a more confrontational stance, referencing his own history with Khabib Nurmagomedov and his Dagestani team.
Nurmagomedov: “It Was Crazy”
Usman Nurmagomedov was surprised by McGregor’s reaction and spoke highly of Hughes despite the post-fight controversy.
“Honestly, it was crazy,” Nurmagomedov told MMA Junkie. “Paul is a good guy. We spoke with him a little bit. He’s really a good guy.”
Hughes largely dismissed McGregor’s comments, making it clear that he no longer looks up to him. Given McGregor’s repeated legal troubles, Hughes stated that the former UFC champion’s opinions no longer hold weight in his eyes.
Encouraging McGregor to Set a Better Example
Nurmagomedov believes McGregor should reflect on his influence and use his platform to inspire rather than create division.
“These are hard times for people, and you have to be a good example,” Nurmagomedov said. “Everyone is living on their phone, on social media, watching, following. When you show people bad examples, that’s really bad. You have to understand, brother, a lot of people are watching you.”
The undefeated Bellator champion stressed that public figures bear responsibility for their actions, especially in today’s digital age, where millions closely observe everything they do.

“I Am Not Perfect, But I Try”
Nurmagomedov acknowledged that he himself is not without flaws but emphasized his commitment to self-improvement.
“I try to follow these rules,” he said. “I’m not a perfect person. I’m not always kind, I’m not always humble. But I have to try. I have to learn and correct my mistakes.”
He also noted that his growing popularity makes it even more crucial to be mindful of his actions.
“When I go outside, whether in Italy, Milan, Paris, or my homeland, people come up to me, they want to take pictures. They wish me well. That’s why you have to be a good example for the people.”
McGregor Continues to Target the Nurmagomedov Family
McGregor has a history of criticizing the Nurmagomedov family, and after Hughes’ loss, he once again took aim at them. He claimed Hughes was robbed and referred to Nurmagomedov’s team as “runners” who avoid real fights.
Hughes, however, has brushed off McGregor’s comments, stating that he no longer values the Irishman’s opinions.
As tensions between McGregor and the Nurmagomedov family remain high, the question remains—will McGregor change his ways, or will he continue fueling controversy inside and outside the cage?
