Ultimate Fighter 28 Casting Heavyweights and Women’s Featherweight Fighters
“The Ultimate Fighter” season 28 will begin casting soon with heavyweights and women’s featherweights being sought for the long running reality show.
An open casting call will be held at the Palace Station Hotel in Las Vegas on May 22 for heavyweight men weighing under 265 pounds and featherweight women able to make the 145-pound limit.
The same rules apply for both divisions — fighters must be between the ages of 21-34 with at least three professional fights and a winning record.
Filming for “The Ultimate Fighter” season 28 will begin in July with the show then expected to air on FS1 starting in September. No coaches have been selected at this time.
While both weight classes are earning tryouts, there’s no guarantee both will make it to the show but considering the UFC is only looking for fighters in those two divisions it’s more likely heavyweight and women’s featherweight will be featured.
This will be the first real attempt from the UFC to beef up the women’s featherweight division after crowning a champion in 2017. As of now, there are only three women’s featherweight fighters on the roster with champion Cris Cyborg, former Invicta FC champion Megan Anderson and her opponent at UFC 225, Holly Holm.
As for the heavyweight division, this will be the third time that division has been featured but the first time since season 10 in 2009, which saw Roy Nelson crowned the champion at the end of the season.
