UFC Working On Adding Another Title Fight And Mark Hunt To UFC 221
The UFC will head back to Australia on Feb. 11 when the Octagon lands in Perth for UFC 221 headlined by a UFC middleweight title fight between, Robert Whittaker and Luke Rockhold.
Earlier today, the two took in a press conference hosted at the Perth Arena. Before both combatants of the main event where invited to the stage, the press were invited to ask questions to the UFC officials on stage and some interesting information was disclosed.
The UFC have been staking the cards high with title fights of late and it looks like this will also be the case in Perth. When asked about the possibility of a second title fight being added, the UFC official responded by saying: “Yeah [a second title fight is], definitely very possible and right now. That’s what the matchmakers are looking into.”
He then also added that the matchmakers are also working on adding Mark Hunt to the fight card: “Yes it’s quite likely [Hunt will be added], as well as some other Australian competitors.”
Back in October, Hunt was pulled from a scheduled fight with Marcin Tybura set for Nov. 19 when concerns were raised about his health following an article he wrote titled ‘If I Die Fighting, That’s Fine’. Following tests last week in Las Vegas, Hunt is now back and cleared to fight.
Later in the press conference, the UFC confirmed that the Perth Arena will be configured to fit around 14,000 fans and that the event would run on traditional timings to accommodate US pay-per-view. This will see the doors open at 06:30am (local Perth time), with first bout start at 07:30am and the main card at 11:00am.
