UFC salaries: Seven fighters pocketed over $100k at UFC 278!
The former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman tops the list of the highest earning athletes competing at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City on August 20.
The Pete Suazo Utah Athletic Commission disclosed the UFC salaries to MMA Fighting after a formal request. The report showed that Usman pocketed $500,000 for his title defense against Leon Edwards at the PPV event. It was Usman’s sixth consecutive title defense but despite a good effort, Edwards would win the UFC belt with a vicious head kick knockout in the fifth round. Edwards was paid $350,000 for the title bout but did not pocket an additional win bonus. Neither Usman nor Edwards had a win bonus in their contract, which could mean that both welterweights received percentages of the event’s PPV earnings.
A total of seven fighters got over $100,000: Usman, Edwards, Jose Aldo, Marcin Tybura, Luke Rockhold, Merab Dvalishvili and Paulo Costa. Four fighters also received an additional bonus amount of $50,000:
- Fight of the Night: Costa vs Rockhold
- Performance of the Night #1: Leon Edwards
- Performance of the Night #2: Victor Altamirano
