UFC 270: FRANCIS NGANNOU USES GRAPPLING TO DEFENDS HIS TITLE – BEATS GANE
Francis Ngannou defends his heavyweight title and wins via unanimous decision against Ciryl Gane during UFC 270!
The heavyweight fight acted as the main event bout for this weekend’s UFC PPV event and was Ngannou’s first title defense since he won the belt by knocking out Stipe Miocic in March 2021.
Much of the main event came to focus on the fact that Ngannou and Gane were former teammates and their leaked sparring videos. Once the fight started, both heavyweights looked focused. Ngannou pressed in a methodical way while Gane was okay with keeping the champion at a distance and attacking with several less powerful attacks.
Ngannou seemed to be breathing heavily already after one round but continued to push forward even in rounds two and three. Gane continued to keep the fight at a distance and became more creative as the fight continued. For example, he landed a spinning kick in the third round that grazed Ngannou’s head.

The later rounds, however, came to show an unusual side from Ngannou when the heavyweight champion implemented his wrestling and takedowns. It seemed to surprise Gane who made several mistakes on the mat while Ngannou advanced positions and held the dominant position.
