Tony Ferguson Sidelined Following ‘Minor’ Elbow Surgery

Tony Ferguson will look to get back in action in 2018 after elbow surgery

UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson is on the mend following elbow surgery on Thursday.

Ferguson’s wife first posted about the surgery this week after he underwent a procedure on his elbow that will keep him out of action for at least a few months.

According to sources close to Ferguson, the surgery he had on his elbow would be considered ‘minor’ but he will still need time to recover and go through rehabilitation. A realistic timeline for his return would be no earlier than spring 2018 for him to recover from the surgery and then go through a full training camp for a fight.

As of now, Ferguson hasn’t been booked for his next bout but he’s expected to unify the lightweight title with champion Conor McGregor when they both return next year.

Ferguson became interim champion in October with a submission victory against Kevin Lee, which marked his 10th consecutive win in a row in the UFC.
