Tony Ferguson names two potential opponents for UFC return

"El Cucuy" reveals who he wants to face in his comeback to the UFC

UFC 249 was a spectacular event for many, though not for lightweight contender Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson. His impressive 12 fight winning streak was snapped, and he lost his all but promised chance to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title. Facing Justin Gaethje instead, as Nurmagomedov was forced out of the bout, Ferguson competed for his second interim title. As is now known, Gaethje pulled off an upset, finishing Ferguson via fifth round TKO.

Ferguson has remained relatively quiet since his tough loss, but now he’s opening for for a comeback to the UFC. Speaking to ESPN‘s Ariel Helwani, Tony Ferguson revealed two opponents he’s interested in facing: Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier.

“You want to give me Conor, give me Conor,” he said. “You want to give me Poirier, we’ll make that happen. Then we’ll fight the winner of the Gaethje and Khabib fight.”

OTHER MMA NEWS:

McGregor hasn’t competed since UFC 246, his first bout in over a year of inactivity. At his UFC return, McGregor demolished Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in less than a minute. However since then he has remained inactive and even announced a third retirement – Which has been met with dubious reactions.

Poirier most recently fought UFC on ESPN 12, where he faced Dan Hooker in an instant classic of a fight. The two went head-to-head for five full rounds, throwing caution out the window and winning the hearts of the entire MMA community.

So far the UFC have not made any announcements in regards to Ferguson’s comeback. It remains to be seen if “El Cucuy” gets his wish.
