Tony Ferguson criticises “Lazy” Khabib Nurmagomedov performance at UFC 242
At UFC 242, lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov extended his winning streak to 28-0 after submitting Dustin Poirier in the third round of their title unification bout. It was a one-sided fight, with Nurmagomedov dominating every round, despite receiving a few hard shots in the second. While most of the MMA community have praised both Nurmagomedov and Poirier, former interim champion Tony Ferguson was decidedly not impressed. Ferguson has been clear, wanting the next shot at the title, and he felt that Nurmagomedov put on a “lazy” performance.

“Lazy. One-dimensional,” Tony Ferguson said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “Nothing against him, both guys did an awesome fight week. I know there was a lot of nerves and stuff. Khabib showed up, he obviously won, put the pressure on Dustin and Dustin didn’t have an answer for it. Props to Khabib for winning but like I said, it’s lazy. We’ve prepared for this guy many times. He’s a good fighter but I know how to break that goat.”
As it stands now Nurmagomedov and Ferguson share first place in the division for longest win streak with 12 straight victories. Both have beaten many of the divisions best and they are without a doubt at the top of the lightweight ladder. Nurmagomedov has now beaten the likes of Al Iaquinta and Conor McGregor. Ferguson most recently beat Anthony Pettis and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
