In a new interview with ESPN, Santos told of his rehabilitation, and his outlook on the fight. He says the fight is hard to watch, as he feels he won three out of four rounds – a sentiment many fans have shared.
“It’s difficult for me to watch,” Santos told ESPN about the fight with Jones. “That’s why it took me so long to watch it. If I was a judge, I would have given that fight to Thiago Santos. I think I won Rounds 1, 2 and 5. I think the fact Jones was the champion weighed on the judges’ decision. I think the challenger has to do more to take the belt from the champion.
There has to be a rematch. As soon as I am 100%, we have to get back in there and find out a real winner.”
Santos is expected to be out with rehabilitation the rest of the year. Meanwhile no clear titel contender at 205 lbs has emerged. Fans all over the world have given props to Santos for his fantastic performance, and many would like to see a rematch. It remains to be seen if the UFC feel the same way.
