Tecia Torres Believes Fight Against Jessica Andrade Should Have Been Main Event at UFC on FOX 28

Tecia Torres isn't upset that she's not the main event but definitely believes her fight against Jessica Andrade deserved the headline spot

Tecia Torres is just days away from a fight that might finally secure her a shot at the UFC strawweight title, but she won’t be competing in the headline spot.

Instead, Torres will meet No. 2 ranked strawweight contender Jessica Andrade in the co-main event at UFC on FOX 28 this weekend from Orlando with the winner likely securing the top spot to fight for gold later this year.

In her opinion, Torres believes her matchup with Andrade definitely deserves the spotlight with five rounds to prove who is the real No. 1 contender at 115 pounds. That being said, Torres’ doesn’t have anything against the current main event between Jeremy Stephens and Josh Emmett, she just feels there’s more on the line in her matchup.

“I think that this fight should definitely be the main event but it really doesn’t matter,” Torres said in an exclusive interview ahead of her fight. “At the end of the day, I’m grateful for the fight and I just want to get in there and get another big victory so I can get one step closer to the title fight.

“Looking at the card, I definitely think our fight should be in that spot but it’s OK.”

If there’s solace in not being the main event, Torres knows that a lot of eyeballs are going to be watching her fight with Andrade given their standing in the division.

With strawweight champion Rose Namajunas taking on former title holder Joanna Jedrzejczyk just over a month later at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, Torres is confident that her fight with Andrade will have a major impact on the next contender in the division.

So whether or not she’s the main event, Torres knows all eyes are going to be on her fight with Andrade.

“I do believe that for sure,” Torres said about the magnitude of her fight carrying the most weight at UFC on FOX 28. “I believe that will be the fight to watch at the end of the night.”
