Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson Expected to Face Darren Till at UFC Fight Night in Liverpool
It looks like the first UFC event in Liverpool, England has a main event.
Former two-time title contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is expected to face local favorite Darren Till in a welterweight headliner on May 27.
Verbal agreements are in place for the matchup although no contracts have reportedly been signed at this time. UFC officials have not made any announcements regarding the matchup as of yet. BJPenn.com first reported the news.
The showdown between “Wonderboy” and Till has been rumored for months ever since UFC president Dana White teased the fight with expectations that it would serve as the main event for a different card earlier this year.
Now it appears the fight is finally coming together with Thompson stepping into enemy territory as the former title challenger looks to add another top contender to his resume. Most recently, Thompson battered Jorge Masvidal for three rounds as he got back on track following a loss to welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
As for Till, he’s remained undefeated in his UFC campaign including his most recent win where he rolled over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone with a vicious first round knockout when they met in Poland last year.
Till has been touted as one of the fastest rising stars on the UFC roster but he’ll certainly be taking a step up in competition by facing “Wonderboy” in May.
