An injury has forced Santiago Ponzinibbio out of his main event fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC Fight Night in Chile on May 19.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the news on Saturday following an initial report from Combate.

Ponzinibbio dropping off the card is definitely a major blow to the UFC’s first ever event in Chile as he was one of the major local draws as he hails from Argentina.

Now the search is on to find a new opponent for Usman, who has been anxiously awaiting his moment to not only fight in a main event but face a ranked opponent after stringing together seven straight wins in the UFC since winning “The Ultimate Fighter” season 21.

Usman will now wait to see if the UFC can find him a worthwhile opponent to keep him on the card in Chile less than a month away.
