Roy Jones Jr. on the Rule Advantage for Mike Tyson Against Jake Paul
“I’m Not Worried About Mike” – Boxing Legend Roy Jones Jr. Predicts the Fight
Roy Jones Jr., a renowned figure in boxing, has thrown his support behind Mike Tyson for the upcoming bout against Jake Paul. In recent weeks, former champions Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield have also endorsed “Iron Mike” ahead of this November 15 clash at AT&T Stadium in Texas. This highly anticipated match marks Tyson’s first professional fight since 2005, and Jones Jr. believes he still has what it takes to compete effectively against the younger Jake Paul.
The Rule Adjustments Favoring Tyson
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has officially sanctioned the Tyson-Paul fight as a professional heavyweight match with unique modifications. Instead of the standard 10-ounce gloves, the fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves, reducing the impact of punches and minimizing knockout risk. Additionally, the rounds are shortened to two minutes, with a total of eight rounds planned, which is favorable to Tyson’s endurance.
Reflecting on his 2020 exhibition bout with Tyson, Roy Jones Jr. commented on Tyson’s stamina:
“When I boxed him four years ago, we did two-minute rounds, and, surprisingly, he didn’t lose energy; he kept the same pace.”
Jones Jr. believes that with two-minute rounds this time as well, Tyson can maintain his performance throughout the fight, echoing his confidence that the older fighter will not tire easily.

Jones Jr.’s Prediction on the Tyson vs. Paul Outcome
Roy Jones Jr. has expressed optimism regarding Tyson’s chances, particularly with the modifications that limit Paul’s usual knockout power. Paul, known for his knockout victories over Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Mike Perry, may find it challenging to replicate these successes against Tyson, a seasoned former world champion. Jones Jr. foresees a points decision win for Tyson but also thinks that Tyson could seek an early stoppage if he’s comfortable in the ring:
“I believe in Mike, likely via decision. But if he wants to finish it, he can. Yet, if he’s just looking to enjoy the fight, he might take it slow and have some fun.”
According to Jones Jr., Tyson’s defense, accuracy, and endurance are critical assets that give him the edge, particularly with his experience against powerful opponents.
As Jones Jr. put it, “I’m not worried about Mike and his age. Mike is still hard to hit, and he hits like a truck.”

The Tyson vs. Paul event will be available for streaming globally on Netflix, and the co-main event will showcase Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s highly anticipated rematch. This November 15 spectacle at AT&T Stadium could very well become one of the most talked-about boxing events of the year.
