Report: Conor McGregor And Floyd Mayweather In Talks For A Rematch Under MMA Rules
Could the impossible actually happen and we see Floyd Mayweather fight Conor McGregor in MMA?
Well according to UK Combat sports journalist Gareth A Davies, talks have begun surrounding a second showdown between the Irishman and the undefeated world champion boxer.
Davies was speaking to Jim White, a sports broadcaster best known for his work on Sky Sports News. Davies stated that his sources were telling him that discussions have started and that he believes the two will fight for a second time.
“My soundings are that there are a lot of talks going on in the background, there are a lot of talks around people with Mayweather,” Davies said.
“There are a lot of talks about him potentially having an MMA fight with McGregor. McGregor had no chance in a boxing match with Mayweather.
“People will tune in to see Mayweather get stopped by Conor McGregor and it won’t affect his boxing record.
“I think it’s going to happen and I think it will be a three, four, five hundred million dollar fight again.”
Mayweather and McGregor fought in the boxing ring last August in a fight that set global pay-per-view records. Mayweather won the fight convincingly by TKO in the tenth round, but rumours of a second meeting between the two picked up pace last week when Mayweather posted multiple videos teasing the fight in collaboration with Irish bookmaker Paddy Power.
At the same time, McGregor admitted at a charity event in New York that he would like to get even with Mayweather and stated that a rematch was one of many options on the table for him.
Will the rematch take place? Will it be an MMA fight? Given the money on the table it’s certainly not impossible and as they say, there’s no smoke without fire.
