Reality star Aaron Chalmers on fight: “Some MMA fans wont allow it!”
Tonight at Bellator: Newcastle undefeated Aaron Chalmers (4-0), former star of MTVs “The Geordie Shore”, takes on american Corey Browning (3-1). During this weeks Bellator press conference in London, MMAnytt had the chance to speak with the lightweight fighters about his upcoming bout.
Chalmers says he’s been dealing with a lot of prejudice and negative feedback from certain MMA fans, who can’t accept that someone with his background has transitioned to MMA.
“Some MMA fans just wont allow it, like ‘how can someone from reality TV become an MMA fighter?’ It’s like it’s not allowed. But I live in a different city to train, I live three hours away from my home, away from my girlfriend, away from my dogs, to train. It’s hard, it is hard, but like I said, it is paying off now. Hopefully some of the people who used to hate us are starting to support us, I’m hoping, but we’ll see!”
Newcastle is Chalmers home town, and he’s been training hard to make sure his local fans have something to cheer about.
“I’m not writing Corey Browning off, but I’ve trained a hard four months, HARD, hard four months for this fight. There’s no way hes coming to my city to take that away from us!”
