Ramon Taveras Shaken After Home Invasion, Brother’s Death Not Forgotten
UFC Fighter’s Harrowing Encounter
UFC bantamweight fighter Ramon Taveras recently survived a violent home invasion at his mother’s residence in Jacksonville, Florida. This incident comes five years after the tragic death of his brother due to gun violence, raising suspicions about a possible connection between the two events.
The Incident
On July 29, 2024, at approximately 10:05 PM, Taveras was at his mother’s house when a group of armed men attacked the property. Fortunately, Taveras emerged unscathed and managed to defend himself by returning fire with his own weapon. He shared the chilling experience on Instagram, expressing his frustration with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) for their perceived inaction both now and in the past when his brother was killed in 2019.
“It’s unfortunate that I even have to make a post like this, but I cannot let this be swept under the rug,” Taveras posted. “Monday, July 29, 2024, at 10:05 pm, a group of armed men drove up on me at my mother’s house and tried to take my life. By the grace of God, I made it out with no injuries and was able to grab my own firearm and return fire in self-defense”.

Taveras’ Career and Recent Challenges
Ramon Taveras made his UFC debut at UFC 297, securing a split-decision victory over Serhiy Sidey. Despite being scheduled to fight Caolan Loughran at UFC 304, Taveras had to withdraw due to an injury. His professional MMA record stands at 10-2, with significant victories including wins over UFC veteran Martin Day and PRIDE veteran Charles Bennett.
Calls for Justice and Moving Forward
Taveras has been vocal about the lack of justice for his brother’s murder, criticizing JSO for their handling of both incidents.
“This city is unforgiving, and it’s worse that JSO does nothing to correct the problem. I lost my brother in 2019 due to gun violence, and his killers are yet to be caught. Now I find myself almost in the same situation,” he stated.
Expressing his gratitude for surviving the attack, Taveras also announced his decision to leave Jacksonville for the safety of his family, while pledging to continue advocating against gun violence and for better law enforcement in his community.
