Paige VanZant vs. Jessica Eye pulled from UFC 216

The flyweight fight is no longer taking place on Oct. 7

Paige VanZant has suffered an injury and it will force her out of the upcoming fight against Jessica Eye scheduled for UFC 216 on Oct. 7.

UFC officials confirmed the news on Monday.

With VanZant out of the fight, UFC officials will not book a replacement opponent and Eye has also been pulled from the card.

It’s the worst case scenario for Eye, who was originally scheduled to fight in July but her opponent Aspen Ladd was forced out of their fight just hours ahead of the event. Now Eye is back on the sidelines without an opponent as she looks to make her flyweight debut in the UFC.

As for VanZant, it appears a back injury was the cause of her withdrawal from the card but there’s no word yet on how long she will be sidelined. It’s possible the UFC could move to rebook the fight if VanZant is able to return in a reasonable amount of time.

UFC 216 will now move forward with 12 total fights next Saturday night.
