Neil Magny Spoils Carlos Condit’s Return, Earns Unanimous Decision Win at UFC 219

Neil Magny picks up a huge win over Carlos Condit at UFC 219

Neil Magny continues to prove people wrong as he picks up another win over a former UFC champion with a win over Carlos Condit on Saturday night.

Condit was returning from more than a year away from the sport and the ring rust showed as he was a little slow out of the gate, which allowed Magny to set the pace from the opening seconds until the final horn.

From the very start of the fight, Magny wasn’t going to allow Condit any time to warm up after a 16-month layoff as he pressed the pace with constant forward pressure and throwing strong combinations throughout the first round.

Condit kept trying to find a home for his kicks but with each shot thrown, Magny would come back over the top with several fast punches.

Magny’s pressure heavy game didn’t slow down as he opted for a takedown in the second round, putting Condit on the mat and working from the top. Condit defended well but got locked under Magny for several minutes before finally finding a way back to his feet.

On the break, Condit did manage to land a quick elbow strike, but Magny was undeterred and he continued his assault with another takedown late in the round.

In between rounds, Condit’s corner told him that he needed a finish if he wanted to win the fight, but unfortunately he just couldn’t seem to his rhythm with Magny constantly pursuing him while landing stinging punches and kicks from the outside.

With about two minutes to go, Condit attempted his biggest flurry of the fight with a barrage of punches and elbows but nothing landed clean and Magny was able to weather the storm before circling away to avoid any real damage.

As time ticked away to the final horn, Magny landed yet another takedown to secure his victory after three hard fought rounds against a former UFC welterweight champion.

The judges returned scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 all in favor of Magny, who picks up another big win in his career.

“I feel like this puts me right back to face someone in the top five,” Magny said following his win at UFC 219. “Let’s start off 2018 with a bang.”

It was certainly a huge win for Magny but a definite setback for Condit, who was returning to action looking to jumpstart his career following a long layoff where he contemplated retirement.
