Michael Page Thinks Bellator 200 Is ‘Just Hands Down Better’ Than UFC Liverpool
Bellator 200 in London and UFC Fight Night 130 in Liverpool take place on May 25 and May 27 respectively later this month in what should be one of the biggest weekends of MMA to ever take place in the UK.
The Bellator card is considered one of the strongest in the company’s existence, but at UFC Fight Night 130, history will be made when Darren Till headlines the UFC’s first trip to Liverpool.
Michael “Venom” Page will feature on the Bellator 200 fight card against Dave Rickels and speaking to MMANytt last week, the Brit said that when you look at the two fight cards side-by-side, there’s really only one winner.
“It’s by far one of the best cards they’ve ever put on and everyone I speak to is going crazy about it.” Page said. “There’s a UFC card on just a few days later and there’s no comparison when you talk about the buzz around both of the cards.
“The UFC is the UFC, but this Bellator 200 card from start to finish is just hands down better, it’s not even close.”
Page will feature alongside his London Shootfighters teammates Mike Shipman and Amir Albazi. According to Page, they are all just as excited about seeing other fights on the Bellator 200 card than they are their own.
“When you got guys who are fighting on the card talking about other fights on the card, that’s when you know you’ve got something special,” Page said. “Some of the guys I’m talking to are so psyched about some of the other fights, that it’s almost like they aren’t fighting themselves. They sound like fans of the event rather a fighter on the card and that’s how I feel.
“Sometimes the main card guys don’t have to be in the arena until later on, but trust me, I’m going to be there from the very first fight and I’m sure everyone else is. I want to be there. My teammates Mike Shipman and Amir ‘The Prince’ [Albazi] are both fighting and they’re looking amazing in the gym. I’m just excited for everything mate. No doubt we’ll get another showcase from Conor McGregor because his friend is also on there. Bellator have just done everything right for this card and I can honestly say that even if I wasn’t fighting i would be front and centre for that show.”
The Londoner admits that a good deal of the fanbase will likely tune into both and take in both Bellator 200 on the Friday and then UFC Fight Night 130 on the Sunday evening. If fans are forced to make a decision between the two though, Page thinks that the Bellator card is clearly the superior of the two.
“Seeing this as a fan of the sport, if you’re a true fan you’re probably gonna try get to both,” Page said. “But, if you can only go to one, there’s so much happening on the Bellator card that it would have to be that one.
“There are just so many good fights that I think that the Bellator matchmakers Rich [Chou] and Mike [Kogan] have outdone themselves. This is going to be a massive, special night and I don’t think you can compare it to the UFC card if you’re being honest about it.”
Bellator 200 will take place at the SSE Wembley Arena on May 25 and will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight pitting Roy Nelson vs. Mirko Cro Cop.
