Michael Bisping Says Georges St-Pierre Vacating ‘Looks Like A B—h Move’ But Concedes It Was ‘Smart’
Michael Bisping is ever one to hold his tongue and today he finally gave his thought on Georges St-Pierre vacating the UFC middleweight title he won off him at UFC 217.
Speaking today on his ‘Believe You Me’ podcast, Bisping got right into the subject and suggested that St-Pierre vacated for a different reason than the one he’s spoken about publicly.
“Oh right, OK, he’s prick, he’s a prick, god bless him,” Bisping said. “I mean, it’s kind of, and I’ll be brutally honest here, it’s kind of a double edged sword. He’s a good thing and a bad thing. You know, by the way, Dana White threw me under a bus when he first found out. He wasn’t happy when he found out and he said he cherry picked Bisping. That doesn’t do me any favours. He didn’t cherry pick me, but I did say that. I said George wanted to fight me because he thought it was an easy fight and this and that.
“He got the win, but then he vacated the belt. He vacated the belt because, I dunno, apparently he had to go to hospital after our fight and he thought he was going to paralysed and he had a bad neck and all this stuff. I dunno, he just doesn’t fancy doing it again.
Bisping then went on to explain the positives and negatives on St-Pierre vacating the belt.
“Now in one respect it’s good for me because if he was to fight at 185, if he was to get beat, as an MMA fighter or as a boxer whatever it is, if somebody beats you, you never want to see them lose again,” he said. “You know what I’m saying? If they get beat, then the person that beat them it has negative impact on you because people think they can automatically beat me as well. So he’s never going to fight at 185 again, so that’s good because I’m the only guy at 185 he ever beat.
“No one at 185 is ever going to beat him, so Cheers George, thanks for that.
“But at the same time, it also looks like a bit of a b**** move, you know what I mean? There’s plusses and negatives.”
When he if thought vacating the title right away was always St-Pierre’s plan, Bisping confirmed that he thought that it was, but that he thought it was a wise for him to do s.
“Exactly, he ever said that, remember at the press conferences,” Bisping said. “He said if he was going to lose that he’d never try again and that he was going to retire. I don’t know anything about Georges bank account, but I’m assuming it’s very swollen. It’s got plenty of money in there. So he came back, he got another belt, you know, made history, made a ton of money, made more than me the prick and err, you know, good for him.
“It’s actually really smart. Why should he carry on fighting for this and that.”
“Legacy is more important and he’s got a great legacy there. So fro ma business stand point it was actually a really smart move, but from the UFC’s perspective, of course, it’s frustrating. It’s annoying and it’s opens the doors for Whittaker and Rockhold, but yeah it’s annoying.”
