Max Holloway Faces Frankie Edgar in the Main Event at UFC 222 in Las Vegas
The featherweight title will go up for grabs in the UFC 222 main event as Max Holloway takes on Frankie Edgar in a five round fight that will headline the card on March 3 from Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the matchup on Monday.
Holloway (19-3) enters the main event after winning his last 12 fights in a row including a pair of TKO victories over arguably the greatest featherweight fighter in history in Jose Aldo.
Now the 26-year old Hawaiian will put his undisputed belt on the line for the second time while he faces a former lightweight champion taking his third crack at winning featherweight gold.
Edgar (22-5-1) has been one of the most consistent performers on the UFC roster for the past decade as he served as 155-pound champion before dropping down to featherweight in 2013.
Since that time, Edgar has run through virtually every contender thrown in his path including wins over Chad Mendes, Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson and Yair Rodriguez.
Edgar will now attempt to become a two-division champion when he faces Holloway in the headline fight set for March 3 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
