Mark Godbeer Hoping ‘A Few Knockouts’ Can Earn Him A Beer Sponsorship Like Stipe Miocic
It’s another fight card involving the UFC heavyweight Mark Godbeer and that usually means there will be no shortage of jokes and memes flying around the internet about his unique surname.
At 6ft 2” and roughly 240lbs, the British fighter cuts a mean figure, but the truth of the matter is he’s a friendly giant outside of the cage and he’s never shy of a laugh or two. Speaking with MMANytt.com this week, Godbeer spoke about the reaction his surname usually gets from the American fans.
“Do you know what? The Americans, they do love it,” Godbeer said with smile.
“I’m probably going to get trolled for it because no matter what, there are always trolls out there and I’m starting to learn that now.
“But generally all the feedback I get from the American is like, ‘Hey man, that’s an excellent last night,’ that’s my crappy American accent, but yeah, it’s two of the biggest things in America, God and beer, these are big things,” Godbeer said with a chuckle.
“With a couple of decent knockouts, maybe I can get a beer sponsor, how about that.”
Godbeer (13-3) has had mixed fortunes since joining the promotion with his record showing 2 wins and 1 loss. The man from Bridgwater comes into the fight off the back of a controversial disqualification victory of Walt Harris at UFC 217, but in my Godbeer’s mind at least, it isn’t a night he can look back on with pride.
“I do not class that last fight as a win,” Godbeer said.
“I’m not taking a disqualification as a win on my record. It put my up in the UK rankings and that, but I never promoted any of that because I don’t see it as a win.
“It was just frustrating, a frustrating situation and just one of those things where you have to look forward and not back.”
