Luka Jelcic Signs For Bellator MMA And Debuts At Bellator 190 In Italy

SBG lightweight Luka Jelcic has signed for Bellator MMA and will face Brandon Girtz

SBG lightweight Luka Jelcic has been calling for a shot on the world stage and on Dec. 9, he will get his opportunity when he makes his promotional debut for Bellator MMA in Florence, Italy.

Jelcic (10-2) was born in Croatia, but fights out of SBG Ireland under head coach John Kavanagh. The 28-year-old moved to Ireland four years ago with his fiancé after he opportunistically reached out to Kavanagh and asked if he could train at SBG.

After getting the greenlight, Jelcic and his partner made the move to the Emerald Isle and he’s built an impressive record fighting under both the Final Fight Championship and Total Extreme Fighting Championship banners where he is currently holding their lightweight titles. Jelcic now gets the opportunity of a lifetime to fight under the Bellator MMA banner when he faces Girtz at Bellator 190.

Girtz (14-7) is currently on a three fight losing streak, but has been facing some of Bellator’s premier 155-pounds fighters. The American’s losing run began back in Nov. 2016 when he was defeated by Adam Piccolotti at Bellator 165.

Girtz then dropped two further fights in 2017, firstly to Fernando Gonzalez at Bellator 174 and then Derek Campos at Bellator 181. Prior to his recent run of losses, Girtz had put together a run of three wins with victories over Benny Madrid, Melvin Guillard and Campos.

Two other fights have been confirmed for the Bellator 190 fight card. Rafael Carvalho will fight Alessio Sakara in a middleweight main event, while Lena Ovchynnikova will fight Alejandra Lara in flyweight action.
