UFC legend on why Whittaker could be Khamzat’s ‘kryptonite
In an interview with Fox Sports Australia, UFC legend Georges St-Pierre discusses the upcoming Khamzat Chimaev vs. Robert Whittaker fight at UFC Saudi Arabia.
The hype around Khamzat has cooled off a bit recently, mainly due to his inactivity over the past year. With a win over Whittaker, ‘Borz’ would undoubtedly reverse that trend and potentially be rewarded with a title shot against middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis.
However, that will be easier said than done. “The Reaper” is a former champion who has only lost to Israel Adesanya and du Plessis at middleweight. Georges St-Pierre believes that Whittaker’s record against previous opponents does not bode well for Khamzat, who is in danger of suffering his first ever middleweight loss.
– “If there’s one guy that can stop Chimaev, it’s Robert Whittaker,” said Georges St-Pierre. “Because if you look at Chimaev, he has a (style) that is comparable to Yoel Romero. Romero was a very good wrestler, very explosive and strong, and Whittaker was like Yoel Romero’s kryptonite. He was able to beat him twice. So stylistically he can do the same thing to Chimaev and make Chimaev look bad.

– Robert Whittaker has a completely different style. He comes from a karate background like myself. Karate background, we have a very different style. We have a different timing when we rush in and the way we control the distance. It will be very strange for our opponents because most people in the MMA world come from kickboxing or Muay Thai.
– He has to be at his best because Chimaev is no joke. He looks unstoppable at the moment.
