Khabib sends surprising message to Tony Ferguson – after UFC 249 loss
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson may have had their differences, but that is now part of the past. In a heartfelt message, “The Eagle” sends “El Cucuy” a surprising message following his UFC 249 loss against Justin Gaethje.
UFC 249 was supposed to be headlined by a long-awaited clash between the undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and top contender Tony Ferguson. Unfortunately, the match-up got canceled for a fifth time and Ferguson instead opted for an interim title bout against Justin Gaethje.
Despite going into the bout as the favorite, Ferguson saw himself in deep waters with Gaethje, getting hit by heavy shots from the start. In the fifth round, referee Herb Dean had seen enough and decided to stop the fight.
Gaethje got crowned the interim champion of the lightweight division and will be next in line to get a shot Khabib.
On Twitter, Khabib chose to send a heartfelt message to Ferguson, leaving their previous differences aside:
“Whatever happened is in the past. Heads up Tony, I hope everything is good with you and your family. When your son grow up, he’ll be proud with you,” Khabib wrote.
