Khabib Nurmagomedov Sends Tony Ferguson a Message After UFC 223 Withdrawal
It didn’t take long for Khabib Nurmagomedov to send a message to Tony Ferguson after their main event fight at UFC 223 was cancelled.
Ferguson suffered a knee injury that forced him to drop out of the UFC 223 main event just six days away from the card. This is the fourth time a fight between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov has been scrapped.
In the days leading into the fight, Ferguson was critical of Nurmagomedov after he caused the last cancellation with a botched weight cut put him into the hospital just 24 hours away from the event. Now Nurmagomedov is returning the favor while offering a kind word to his longtime rival.
“Tony — heal up man. Just want to advise you, don’t talk too much anymore,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram. “Lot of thoughts in my head right now, but I don’t want to become like you. Hope, this lesson will teach you watch your mouth.”
While Ferguson is injured, Nurmagomedov will remain on the card as he now faces featherweight champion Max Holloway with the winner being crowned the new UFC lightweight champion.
As for Ferguson’s interim championship, UFC president Dana White confirmed that he will no longer hold that title with Nurmagomedov vs. Holloway fighting for the new undisputed title at 155 pounds on Saturday night.
