Khabib takes aim at Conor McGregor in new diss: “For the fans”
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov brought up the infamous UFC 229 brawl in a new diss aimed at arch rival Conor McGregor.
As has been established time and time again, there are certain feuds that seemingly will never die down. With that in mind; It’s safe to say that Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor wont be exchanging birthday cards anytime soon.
The two fighters had been rivals for a long time, with verbal exchanges being made several times while both were ascending the UFC ranks. Then they were finally booked to fight in 2018, with McGregor challenging for Nurmagomedov’s lightweight title. The buildup to their title bout at UFC 229 was contentious and violent, with a full scale brawl erupting after their bout ended, with members of Nurmagomedov’s team attacking McGregor and his corner.

This was a dark day for the sport of MMA that was condemned by most, but that will never be forgotten. Both parties faced suspension and fines for the incident, and the bad blood still seems to be flowing.
In a post on Instagram, Nurmagomedov posted video of the UFC 229 brawl, showing his team mate Zubaira Tukhugov assaulting McGregor. In the post, the UFC champ wrote the words “For the fans”.

Nurmagomedov is next scheduled to defend his title against interim champ Justin Gaethje on September 12. The undefeated title holder most recently defeated Dustin Poirier via submission at UFC 242. Nurmagomedov was supposed to defend his title against rival Tony Ferguson at UFC 249, but the bout fell through due to Covid-19.
Meanwhile, McGregor announced his retirement from MMA. This was taken with a grain of salt as he has made such claims before.
