Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father dead from Covid-19 complications
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, father to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, is now dead. The Dagestani unfortunately passed away after a long battle with Covid-19, according to reports from Russian outlet Life.
After falling ill due to Covid-19 in May of this year, Abdulmanap later had a stroke as a result. He then underwent heart surgery and was in intensive care, later falling into a medically induced coma. Supposedly Russian president Vladimir Putin was involved, trying to ensure Abdilmanap’s recovery.
“I can confirm Khabib’s father is in a medically induced coma,” Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz said. “Khabib has been in contact with Vladimir Putin over the last several days, and he has promised Khabib’s father will receive the best medical treatment available.” His status has been critical ever since.
Abdulmanap is a pioneer of martial arts in Russia. He played a central role in bringing sambo and combat sports to the strife-stricken regions of Dagestan and Chechnya. Many of the Russian fighters in the UFC have Abdulmanap to thank for being introduced to combat sports. He is incredibly respected in Russia, and truly a central figure in Dagestan.
