Justin Buchholz Parts Ways With Team Alpha Male
Justin Buchholz has parted ways with Team Alpha Male after stepping into the head coach role in Jan. 2016.
Buchholz’s relationship with Team Alpha Male owner Urijah Faber was recently brought into question after Faber introduced a new hierarchy to the coaching staff.
Speaking on the Slip n’ Dip podcast last November, Faber described the situation from his perspective.
“I think Justin is maybe having a little trouble with having more guys in on practice,” Faber said. “It was kinda his idea for him to step into more of a kickboxing role. I’d love for him to be as a head coach. There’s a lot of guys that he will be a lead coach for and there’s a lot of guys that won’t have him as a lead coach. So it’s not necessarily like a shaking up, everything is pretty much the same.”
The disagreement was seemingly put one side for a few months as Buchholz continued to corner Cynthia Calvillo at UFC 219 and then Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night 124, but the matter appears to have come to a head now and Buchholz confirmed to MMANytt.com earlier this morning that he is no longer with the team.
Despite confirming his departure from the Team Alpha Male coaching staff, Buchholz added that he will remain working with UFC strawweight Cynthia Calvillo and UFC featherweight Darren Elkins.
A further announcement is expected to follow shortly on Buchholz’s future.
