Joseph Benavidez Returns Against Sergio Pettis at UFC 225 in Chicago
After suffering a torn ACL last year, former title contender Joseph Benavidez is back and he will face Sergio Pettis in a flyweight bout at UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9.
UFC officials confirmed the matchup via the Chicago Tribune on Monday.
Benavidez suffered the injury to his knee last year when he was preparing for a bout against Ben Nguyen as he looked to build on a six-fight win streak that included a victory over Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo.
Following surgery and a year out of action, Benavidez is now set to return as he jumps right back into the deep end of the flyweight division for his next fight.
Meanwhile, Pettis returns after losing a unanimous decision to Cejudo this past December, which snapped his four fight win streak. Now the Milwaukee native will look to get back on track against Benavidez, who has been ranked as one of the top contenders at flyweight ever since the division was created.
In addition to Benavidez vs. Pettis, a heavyweight fight between Rashad Coulter and Allen Crowder was also added to the card.
