Jorge Masvidal ROASTS Colby Covington following UFC 245 loss
As is no surprise to most in the MMA community, Jorge Masvidal let his former friend turned bitter rival Colby Covington have it after UFC 245.
Colby Covington challenged reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for the title at UFC 245, and it was an even fight heading into the fifth round. While many expected wrestling to play a larger role in the fight, the fight played out almost exclusively on the feet. While Covington put on a strong performance, he was knocked out by Usman at the end of the fifth round.

After Covington’s tough loss, many expected a reaction from former friend and team mate Jorge Masvidal – Who delivered. Taking to Twitter, Masvidal made his feelings on the matter clear.
“They say never kick a man when he is down but you not a man. Should’ve paid my coach, it’s cheaper than getting your jaw wired shut,” Masvidal wrote.
While Covington and Masvidal shared a close friendship for many years, that was replaced by contempt. As Covington grew into his villainous, antagonistic character, he began burning bridges – Most notably with his former friend Masvidal. Since then, they’ve sparred verbally via social media, and the friendship is gone.
Had Covington won, many expected Masvidal to be all but guaranteed a title shot, as the contentious buildup would captivate fans. Now a bout between Covington and Masvidal seems unlikely, as the latter is coming off of three straight T/KO wins. It remains to be seen if these former friends meet in the octagon.
