Jon Jones Likely to Return in 2025
Jon Jones Defends Title at UFC 309
Jon Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title at UFC 309, securing a TKO victory over Stipe Miocic with a devastating body kick in the third round. This marked his first title defense since defeating Ciryl Gane to claim the belt in March 2023. Unlike the 20-month gap between these fights, Jones now plans a quicker return, stating he is likely to fight again in 2025.
“UFC and I Are in Negotiations”
In a recent interview with The Schmo, Jones confirmed he is back in training and negotiating with the UFC about his next fight.
“So right now, the UFC and I are in negotiations. We’re in talks to see what’s next. I’m back in the gym, I’m training, I feel really great. The team’s support, they’re right behind me, and we’re just going to be ready for whatever opportunity comes our way,” Jones said.
He also hinted at a financial requirement for his next fight, adding:
“There is [a dollar amount in mind], but I’m not going to discuss that publicly. We’ll just have to wait and see. I will be competing in 2025, more than likely.”

Aspinall or Pereira as the Next Challenger?
After his victory over Miocic, speculation has grown regarding Jones’s next opponent. While Jones has expressed interest in fighting Alex Pereira, the current light heavyweight champion, UFC President Dana White has indicated a preference for a heavyweight unification bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall.
Aspinall claimed the interim title during Jones’s injury hiatus and has been vocal about his desire to unify the belts. However, Jones has shown little interest in this matchup, previously stating:
“It would take ‘f**k you money’ to fight Aspinall.”
An Anticipated Comeback After Injury
Jones was originally scheduled to face Miocic in November 2023 but had to withdraw due to an injury. His eventual return marked not just a victory but a statement about his continued dominance in the heavyweight division.
“It’s been amazing. Something feels different about this win. I feel like the whole world is really excited about it. The UFC has elevated it to an even higher place, and I feel like I’m in the right place at the right time. I’m grateful for everything,” Jones reflected post-fight.
With negotiations ongoing, fans eagerly await what could be one of the most significant fights in UFC heavyweight history.
