Jon Jones addresses potential fight with Israel Adesanya: “By the time this kid…”
Israel Adesanya is now the undisputed UFC middleweight champion following his destruction of Robert Whittaker at UFC 243. It was an impressive showing, where Adesanya proved doubters wrong with an incredibly strong performance. Still undefeated, Adesanya seemed unfazed by the huge task at hand and passed the, on paper, toughest test of his career with flying colours. While most of the MMA community is hailing Adesanya as the next big thing in the sport, light heavyweight champ Jon Jones isn’t entirely convinced.
Responding to a tweet by heavyweight Francis Ngannou, Jones made his feelings about Adesanya clear.
By the time this kid gets his confidence together I’ll probably already be in the heavyweight division. I don’t need to wait till 2021 to start believing in myself https://t.co/PE16eSVl9i

This is the second time Jones has dismissed Adesanya’s capabilities. He recently wrote on Twitter that he would “expose” Adesanya, and also wrote: “I will make [Adesanya] my absolute bitch.”
However, Jones isn’t the only one who’s fired shots at Adesanya. Long time middleweight rival Paulo Costa, who has feuded with Adesanya before, directed harsh words at the newly crowned champ. All indications are that Costa is next in line for a shot at the middleweight title, though it’s not yet official. Costa is also undefeated, with 13 out of 14 wins by finish, all but one of them via T/KO.
