Joe Rogan Slams Controversial Decision in Fury vs. Ngannou Showdown!
Controversial Decision in Fury vs. Ngannou Match Sparks Outrage
In a highly anticipated crossover boxing match this past Saturday in Saudi Arabia, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou faced a close split decision loss against WBC champion Tyson Fury. The match concluded with scorecards reading 96-93 and 95-94 in favor of Fury, and 95-94 for Ngannou.
Ngannou, competing in his first-ever boxing match, surprised many by dropping Fury with a left hook in Round 3, marking the sole knockdown of the fight. Despite being a novice in boxing, Ngannou, renowned as the UFC heavyweight champion, demonstrated remarkable prowess against Fury, considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of his generation.
Commentator Joe Rogan expressed his disbelief and outrage at the decision on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” stating, “Francis Ngannou had never had a boxing match ever in his life, had zero boxing matches, but he was the UFC heavyweight champion, knocked down Tyson Fury in the third round, beat him up in the eighth round.” Rogan, along with several boxers and pundits, believed Ngannou should have won. He particularly criticized the judge who scored 96-93 in favor of Fury, asserting that the decision was “fucking outrageous.”
Rogan commended Ngannou for his performance and for challenging Fury. Recalling the beginning of the fight, he mentioned that Fury had taunted, “It’s time to go to school,” to which Ngannou retorted at the end, “You are a shitty professor.”
The future for Ngannou is uncertain. Signed to the PFL earlier this year, he is expected to return to MMA in early 2024. However, given his commendable performance against Fury, there is speculation that he may continue to pursue boxing.
