James Vick Speaks Out Follow KO Loss To Justin Gaethje At UFC Lincoln
James Vick has spoken out for the first time following his devastating knockout lost to Justin Gaethje at UFC Fight Night 135 in Lincoln, Nebraska last evening.
Gaethje scored the knockout win in just 87 seconds when he landed a fierce left jab and overhand right combination with Vick pinned against the cage. Vick dropped face first to the mat unconscious and took one further follow up shot before the referee could dive in for the save.
Prior to the fight, Vick hadn’t held back in the war of words between the two and at the UFC 25th Anniversary press conference he took a number of shots at Gaethje including a jibe where he called him the “Homer Simpson of MMA.”
Well following the knockout loss last evening, Vick took to his Instagram account to give credit to the victorious Gaethje and send a message to his fans.
“Worst night of my life last night,” Vick wrote. “Thank you @justin_gaethje for the opportunity. Though confident in myself I did always respect you. I said what I said to get and promote the fight. You are a class act and I do appreciate your kind words last night. I have no excuses.
“I was in shape, healthy and confident. I blew it. For all those that believed in me and support me I am truly sorry. I will go back and keep training and loving this life of being a fighter and a martial artist. This is the life I have chose and I guess this comes with the territory. Thanks to all my friends, family and teammates for the support and thank you @UFC for the opportunity.”
What next for “The Texecutioner?” His loss last night snapped a four-fight win streak and the nature of it could mean he is out until the end of the year.
