Jake Paul’s Challenge to Dana White: Is a Superfight Being Avoided?

Jake Paul challenges Dana White’s reluctance to set up the heavyweight superfight.

Jake Paul, known for his outspoken nature and ongoing feud with UFC President Dana White, has once again stirred the pot. At the recent press conference for the PFL’s October 19 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou will face Renan Ferreira, Paul did not hold back in criticizing White. The YouTuber-turned-boxer and now a PFL promoter, accused White of being too scared to arrange a much-anticipated fight between Ngannou and UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Paul’s Accusations Against White

Jake Paul made it clear that he believes Dana White is deliberately avoiding the superfight between Ngannou and Jones.

“Well, I think Dana’s scared to make it happen,” Paul stated. “I think he doesn’t want to lose his horse in Jon Jones. I love Jon Jones, but that’s too much of a risk for Dana to take. Francis is one of the baddest, if not the baddest man on the planet. So I think Dana’s scared. I don’t think he would want to do that. But the MMA fans want that. Doesn’t everyone want that? But Dana never does anything for the fans.”

White, however, has a different take on the situation. He claims that Ngannou left the UFC because he was afraid to fight Jones, a statement that Ngannou vehemently denies. According to Ngannou, it was he who was pushing for the fight, not running from it. This ongoing war of words highlights the complex dynamics and behind-the-scenes negotiations that continue to define the sport.

PFL’s Big Night: A Star-Studded Event

The PFL’s upcoming event in Riyadh is shaping up to be one of the most significant MMA events of the year. Alongside the main event featuring Ngannou and Ferreira, the co-main event will see Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg take on PFL tournament winner Larissa Pacheco. Jake Paul, involved in promoting the event, used this platform to reignite his feud with White, stressing that White is out of touch with what fans really want.

Paul’s involvement in MMA goes beyond just being a promoter. He has shown interest in competing under the PFL banner in the future, and his critiques of UFC’s pay structure and fight matchmaking have positioned him as a vocal advocate for fighters’ rights and a disruptor in the MMA landscape.

What’s at Stake in Riyadh?

Paul is not just promoting a fight; he’s promoting what he sees as a potential shift in MMA’s power dynamics. He acknowledges that Ferreira has the opportunity to dethrone Ngannou and become the new “Baddest Man on the Planet.”

“That would be first of all a massive upset. Obviously, that could happen in combat sports. That’s what makes this fight exciting is Ferreira being an insane competitor – but he would become the man. He would become the greatest heavyweight in MMA. But currently as it stands, Francis Ngannou is the man to beat.”

This fight could indeed be a turning point, not just for Ngannou, Ferreira, and PFL, but for the entire MMA landscape. As fans eagerly await October 19, the tension between Paul and White adds an extra layer of drama to what is already a highly anticipated event.

As the fight date approaches, the MMA community will be watching closely to see if Paul’s predictions come true or if Dana White has a surprise of his own in store.
