Ian Machado Garry demands respect for his UFC ranking

Garry insists his UFC 310 performance proves he’s among the best in welterweight rankings.

Ian Machado Garry (15-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) has voiced his frustration with his current UFC welterweight ranking after his narrow loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC). Their UFC 310 clash, billed as a potential title eliminator, ended with Rakhmonov securing a unanimous decision victory. However, Garry believes the fight showcased his status as one of the division’s elite.

“The rankings don’t reflect my performance”

Despite the high stakes, Garry’s ranking remains unchanged at No. 7 in the welterweight standings. The Irishman insists his performance against Rakhmonov, an undefeated phenom, deserves recognition. Speaking to MMA Knockout, Garry elaborated:

“The way I look at this is that the fight against Shavkat was to be the number one contender in the world and go out and fight for the belt next. If I’m not the number one contender, of which Shavkat got his hand raised and has now cemented himself, I’m definitely number f**king two. After that performance, you can’t say I’m not one of the best in the division.”

Rakhmonov, now considered the top contender, is set to face UFC champion Belal Muhammad. Garry’s determination, however, underscores his belief that his stock in the division should have risen despite the loss.

Fans and fighters acknowledge Garry’s elite status

Garry’s self-assurance is bolstered by the positive reception his performance has received from fans and peers alike. The fight against Rakhmonov demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level, solidifying his place among the welterweight elite.

“I know in my heart and my soul, and I see the fans are giving me a lot of love and a lot of respect for that fight,” Garry said. “In my mind, I’m the number two contender in the world.”

This sentiment reflects his confidence in his skills and readiness for any opportunity to solidify his legacy within the UFC.

Garry has made it clear he’s willing to step up should either Rakhmonov or Muhammad be unable to compete in their upcoming title fight. His commitment to staying ready for any challenge is unwavering.

“Could I see the UFC booking me as a replacement? Yes,” he stated. “Do I think it’s realistic? Potentially. However, we’ll see when the cards come. One thing is for sure: I will be ready if they want me. Like I always am. Ready, prepared for anyone and anywhere.”

The future remains bright for Ian Machado Garry

Despite his first professional loss, Garry remains focused on his ultimate goal: becoming the UFC welterweight champion. With his youthful ambition, sharp skills, and unwavering determination, he continues to be a key player in one of the promotion’s most competitive divisions.
