Halley Berry “Broke some bones” training with Valentina Shevchenko
In shooting her new movie “Bruised”, Hollywood star Halley Berry took some all too real strikes for UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
MMA truly has invaded Hollywood. From films like Warrior and Here Comes the Boom, to MMA stars like Ronda Rousey starring in big-budget films like the Fast and Furious series. If he were to decide to, Conor McGregor could undoubtedly have a career in Hollywood.
Among Hollywood stars there are few actors who are bigger MMA fans than Halle Berry, though. She has attended numerous UFC events and has also recreational trained with UFC stars Brian Ortega and Cris “Cyborg” Justinho. She is currently working on the film Bruised, in which she stars as a disgraced MMA fighter than finds herself back in the cage. This is done to both give her child a better life but also to conquer her inner demons.

During filming Berry worked closely with Valentina Shevchenko, who also has a role in the film. Berry was recently a guest on Jimmy Fallon, and she revealed that she took her fair share if hard strikes during filming.
“In this movie, I was fighting the real UFC flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko. And you know what? She had to throw some real kicks, and I had to really take them, and that really broke some bones,” Berry said.
“She’s a beast, but I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher, a better scene mate, a better fight partner. She just brought so much reality to it for me. At times, I felt like I was really fighting. Like, our referee that was in the movie is a real referee, and he says a couple times, ‘Man, I thought I was watching a real fight’ because she brought so much power and authenticity to our fight scenes.”
Berry has been in a slew of action films, including starring roles in the James Bond and John Wick franchises. With her clear, personal interest in combat sports, it makes the film Bruised all the more compelling for MMA fans. The film is expected to be released later this year.
