Gunnar Nelson ‘More Than Ready To Fight Darren Till In Liverpool’ Says His Father
Leon Edwards is making a big play to fight Darren Till at the upcoming UFC Liverpool event on May 27, but he has some competition in the form of Gunnar Nelson.
Nelson has yet to make a public statement since the announcement of the event last Friday, but according to his father Haraldur Nelson, his son is more than willing to step up to the plate and face Till in his own backyard.
“Gunnar is more then ready to fight Till in Liverpool if that is offered,” Haraldur Nelson said in an exchange of messages this morning with MMANytt.com
Back on Jan. 24, John Kavanagh tweeted that Nelson had been offered to fight Till at UFC London on March 17.
Haraldur went on to confirm this and added that his son was ready to accept the fight.
“We were also ready when UFC approached us in January, on the 23rd, about fighting Till in London.
“Gunnar said ‘yes’ but Till’s camp said he was sick and couldn’t fight in March. It was many weeks out from the fight.”
Whilst Edwards and Nelson are the two fighters who have put their hands up to say they want to fight Till, others have suggested that a fight between the two of them would be more appropriate.
Haraldur suggested that the talk of this potential matchup was nothing more than internet speculation, but he did acknowledge Edwards’ recent run and said he thinks the two could put on an exciting fight.
“All fighters in the UFC are tough and Leon is on a good run and looked good in London,” Haraldur said.
“I don’t deal with what people suggest on the internet, only with facts what is offered by the UFC.
“I think Gunnar and Leon would be a good fight, but that is just my personal opinion.
“I have never discussed him with Gunnar or anything.”
