Gilbert Burns vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier Scrapped from UFC on FOX 28

UFC on FOX 28 has just lost a preliminary about after Gilbert Burns vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier was scrapped on Wednesday

UFC on FOX 28 has just taken a hit.

The lightweight bout scheduled between Gilbert Burns and Olivier Aubin-Mercier has been scrapped just a few days away from the event taking place in Orlando, Fla.

UFC officials confirmed the news following an initial report from FloCombat.

According to a statement from the UFC, Burns was deemed medically ineligible to compete after it was determined that it would be unsafe for him to cut any additional weight to get down to the 156-pound limit for his fight against Aubin-Mercier.

There’s no word on where Burns’ weight was at when the UFC made the decision to pull him from the card, but obviously it was enough to where officials felt uneasy about allowing him to attempt to cut down to the lightweight limit.

Burns has never previously missed weight while competing in the UFC but he did compete at welterweight during his career so he’s definitely a larger fighter to cut down to lightweight.

With this lightweight scrap cancelled, UFC on FOX 28 will move forward with 12 total fights.
