Georges St-Pierre Says About Khamzat: “You Can’t Fight Like This”
Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre has come up with a constructive critique of Khamzat “Borz” Chiamev after the UFC 273 event, when Khamzat took on Gilbert Burns.
Khamzat was the big favorite ahead of UFC 273: Volkanovski vs. The Korean Zombie despite the being ranked below Burns. The Swedish UFC star has totally run over his previous opponents but this time it was not as easy.
Burns found success in standing during the fight and scored good with significant strikes on Khamzat that made him look a bit shaken. It was a wild war where both received hard blows and became bloody.
The fight went all rounds and Khamzat was thoroughly tested by former title challenger Burns. But despite the even fight, it was clear that the upcoming star “Borz” did enough to take home the victory that came via an unanimous decision with the judges score cards (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Georges St-Pierre on Khamzat’s win at UFC 273
St-Pierre appeared in an interview with MMANews where he commented on Khamzat’s efforts at UFC 273 which led to him now being ranked number three in the welterweight division.
“I think it was a good fight for Khamzat,” said St-Pierre. Khamzat needed this after running through his previous opponents. Sometimes you encounter adversity and it is a chance to improve. This fight was an important lesson for him.
– It is never good to receive blows to the head. I like to see Khamzat fight but it was not the smartest fight. He could have made it much easier for himself. Khamzat is so used to just dominating his opponent but you can’t fight like this when competing at the elite level.
– You need to prepare, get a game plan and become the perfect arch-enemy of your opponent. It’s not always possible to go into the cage and exchange blows with someone like Burns.
