Game of Thrones star ‘The Mountain’ to make combat sports debut

One of the, quite literally, biggest stars in Hollywood, “The Mountain” from Game of Thrones, is now set to make his debut in boxing. 

The realms of sports and entertainment do at times become intertwined. For example; we’ve seen YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI crossover to sports, and competing in what would become one of the most profitable boxing events in history. Certain, there is money to be made in having celebrities compete, certainly in combat sports.

That’s why the recent feud between renowned strongmen and world champions Eddie Hall and Hafthor Björnsson (Best known as “The Mountain” from Game of Thrones), has enticed many. The two began feuding after that Björnsson set a new world record in deadlift at 1,104.54 pounds at his Icelandic home gym. Hall didn’t accept that record as it was out of competition, and the two began going back-and-forth. The two then began bringing up the aspect of fighting to settle their differences. Hall made a post on social media, claiming that he had signed a contract to fight Björnsson.

Shortly after, the fight was officially announced. Hall and “The Mountain” will battle it out in the boxing ring in Las Vegas, September 2021.

Both fighters are undoubtedly among the strongest men in the world. Björnsson won the the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man and World’s Strongest Man in 2018. Hall, on the other hand, won the World’s Strongest Man 2017 competition. Icelander Björnsson became somewhat of an international star after his role as antagonist “The Mountain” in the award-winning series Game of Thrones. He also knows Icelandic UFC fighter Gunnar Nelson, and due to that connection has spent time at SBG Ireland alongside Conor McGregor.

Björnsson is 206 cm (6 ft 9 in) tall and weighs 205 kg (452 lb), Hall is 190 cm (6 ft 3 in) tall weighing in at 186 kg (410 lb). The fight, when it happens, will truly be one of the biggest fights in combat sports history, certainly in modern times.
