Frankie Edgar out of fight against Max Holloway in UFC 218 main event

Frankie Edgar suffered an injury that forced him out of his upcoming title fight in December.

Featherweight champion Max Holloway needs a new opponent after Frankie Edgar suffered an injury in training that will force him out of their fight scheduled for Dec. 2 at UFC 218.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the news on Wednesday following an initial report from Combate in Brazil.

Edgar was entering the main event on a two fight win streak including a dominant victory against highly touted prospect Yair Rodriguez in May, but now it appears he’ll have to wait until next year to get a shot at the title.

Edgar falling out of the UFC 218 main event leaves the UFC in a tough spot with just over three weeks to go until the show takes place.

Holloway is currently riding an incredible 11-fight win streak with victories over four of the top 10 fighters in the official UFC rankings, which leaves the options rather thin in the featherweight division for an opponent.

Now it’s up to the UFC to find someone worthy as Holloway looks to defend his 145-pound title for the first time after earning a TKO against Jose Aldo back in June to claim the championship.
