Frank Mir Exits the UFC, Signs Multi-Fight Deal with Bellator MMA

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has a new fighting home.

On Tuesday, Mir inked a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA, which officially brings to an end his nearly 16-year long tenure with the UFC where he was a two-time heavyweight champion.

Mir (18-11) has fought a who’s who list of heavyweights throughout his career including bouts with Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop.

Most recently,  Mir had gone 2-2 in his past four bouts before asking for his release from the UFC earlier this year.

Currently, Mir is under a two-year suspension after he tested positive for oral turinabol metabolites in a drug test administered by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), who oversees the UFC’s anti-doping policy.

Mir will be eligible to return to action in April 2018 and he’s not expected to fight for Bellator MMA until that suspension expires.

Bellator MMA is expected to make a formal announcement in the coming days.
